Associate researcher / Post-doctoral fellow in large-scale water resources modeling (m / f / x)
(subject to personal qualification, employees are paid according to the salary group E 13 TV-L)
departure April 1, 2022 limited until March 31, 2025. The employment period is governed by the Law on Fixed-Term Research Contracts (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). The position aims to obtain an additional academic qualification (eg habilitation).
Fund: Large-scale water resource valuation has become increasingly important in recent years. This is due to the emerging need (1) to understand and quantify the interactions between the world’s water resources and climate / land use change, (2) to inform water policy in a changing world. increasingly globalized, and (3) to create visualizations and opportunities to educate local and global populations. In most large-scale modeling studies, groundwater, the largest source of drinking water in the world, is represented with strong simplifications mainly due to a lack of observations.
Tasks: The objective of this postdoctoral position is to contribute to the improvement of groundwater processes in large-scale models by advancing the development of (conceptual) models and the evaluation of models at regional and global scales using data beyond typical groundwater level observations or flow observations. This may include remote sensing information, water quality or isotope observations, or any other information that can be incorporated directly or indirectly (eg, by hydrological signatures) into the development and evaluation of large models. ladder. In this area of ââresearch, the postdoctoral fellow will further develop his own scientific profile and his own scientific network, independently supervise undergraduate / masters and doctorate students and seek funding for research projects to create his own research group. Requirements: university degree and doctorate in hydrosciences, hydro (geo) logy, civil engineering (or related); preferably at least one year of postdoctoral experience; proven experience working in international teams, scientific editing and presenting at international conferences; excellent programming, model development and model evaluation skills; larger scale interest or work experience combined with good ideas to develop an independent research profile; knowledge of German is desirable but not compulsory.
