Research Associate (Health Services Research)

The Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health (SSHSPH) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is recruiting a full-time research associate to support faculty members in the area of ​​health services research. The position is a one year contract at first and could be extended with good performance.

Main tasks and responsibilities

The Research Associate will be responsible for and work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and members of the Study Team to ensure the success of the various research projects on time. The research associate may be deployed in NUH or other collaboration sites (e.g. Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, Sengkang General Hospital, National University Polyclinics) and will be exposed to a range of services health and biomedical research. The team’s currently active projects include, but are not limited to, understanding the quality of life of patients and spouses during colorectal cancer treatment, barriers and enablers to cancer screening, adoption of the advance care planning in chronic and cancer patients, understanding perceptions of obesity and weight management in the community, and acceptance of telemedicine initiatives in primary and tertiary health care settings.

The primary roles of the research associate will be to contribute to general research activities such as recruiting, data collection, administration of questionnaires, coordination of surveys, data entry, verification and analysis.

The research associate may additionally be required to assist in the writing of academic manuscripts, the writing of research grant proposals, and the training of junior staff.

The Research Associate will liaise with relevant personnel to ensure that research operations run smoothly, and will be accountable to the PI. The Research Associate will:

  1. Supervise the general management of the assigned project (s);
  2. Provide administrative and secretarial support to the project (s), such as organizing meetings to maintain regular communication with other members of the research team, maintain study site files and documents;
  3. Undertake the day-to-day management of the project (s) at the study site, for example, collaborate with team members at study sites, screening and recruitment, data collection in participants’ hospitals / homes , collection of biological samples;
  4. Perform literature reviews, use statistical software to enter, verify and analyze data as well as maintain team datasets and help prepare progress and final reports for assigned project (s);
  5. Assist in the preparation and writing of ethics or grant proposal submissions;
  6. Maintain the highest standards of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with institutional policies and procedures;
  7. Assist with any other task of a similar nature delegated by the PI.


  1. Have at least a master’s degree in nursing, life sciences, psychology, public health or the equivalent.
  2. Use tact and discretion in handling confidential data.
  3. Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  4. Able to travel between the office and external study sites.
  5. Able to work both independently and as part of a team in a rapidly changing academic / clinical research environment.
  6. Possess good interpersonal and communication skills

Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
