Research Associate, Department of Medicine job with NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE

job description

National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Associate position for title of the research project “Noninvasive measurement of right atrial pressure” at the Department of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

The Department of Medicine is heavily involved in basic science and applied research. The PI has a passion for medical technology innovation in the field of cardiology and has received numerous grants in this regard. There is strong research support in the department. This project is also supported by Acting Professor Leo Hwa Liang of Biomedical Engineering from the National University of Singapore.

Job purpose

The Research Associate will be responsible for and work closely with the Principal Investigator and study team members to ensure the successful development of a prototype and the completion of clinical trials.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a passion for medical research to assist in the development of a new non-invasive method of estimating right atrial pressure to reduce patient costs, reduce morbidity, and improve follow-up and the titration of the treatment.

The team previously developed a unique system to apply to a marked area above the right internal jugular vein. Early demonstrations showed excellent correlation with noninvasive blood pressure measurements when transduced against the radial artery. In other tests with an internal jugular vein phantom with simulated patient waveforms, the sensor also showed good results and good correlation. At present, we are moving into clinical trials and looking for passionate researchers to further develop the device and complete clinical trials.

Main tasks and responsibilities

The Research Associate will liaise with all relevant parties to:

  1. Oversee the general management of the project;

  3. Undertake day-to-day project management at study sites, e.g.
  4. Developing the prototype in NUS labs, collecting and analyzing data, assisting with clinical trials in a hospital.
  5. Perform desk research, analyze data and maintain trial database, as well as help prepare project progress and final reports;
  6. Improve the prototype design through continuous hardware and software improvements;
