The National University of Singapore is inviting applications for a Research Associate position, in the Healthy Longevity Translational Research ProgramYong Loo Lin School of Medicine, with an affiliation with the National University Health System (NUHS) Center for Healthy Longevity.

The Center for Healthy Longevity (CHL), one of the 6 Centers of Excellence of the National University Health System (NUHS), aims to be a leading institute for geroscience research and translation globally, renowned to translate research into practice to improve health.

The CHL is looking for a Research Associate to manage a complete wet laboratory for the extraction and processing of human biological material, but not limited to:

  1. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCS) Serum, plasma Saliva Stool Tissue biopsies

The position requires at least 2 years of work experience in a human diagnostic or tissue processing and storage laboratory. The candidate will be familiar with molecular and cellular biology techniques and will be able to take up a management position after one year, to manage junior colleagues. The candidate will work closely with the CHL management and research team. Appointments will be made on a 2-year contract initially, with the possibility of extension.

duties and responsibilities

  1. Perform routine processing of human biological samples and maintain a repository for sample storage.
  2. Provide scientific and technical expertise for day-to-day operations, process improvement and routine workflow development of human biological specimen and tissue processing.
  3. Evaluate and validate new technologies and/or methods suitable for cell/tissue extraction and processing to increase efficiency.
  4. Perform laboratory quality assurance duties to implement, monitor and enforce NUS Office of Safety, Health and Environment (OSHE) policies in the wet laboratory work environment. Mentor and identify training needs for junior staff.
  5. Comply with laboratory inventory management procedures.
  6. Follow good laboratory practices as defined by the College of American Pathologists Laboratory Accreditation Program and Singapore regulatory bodies such as the Medical Audit and Accreditation Unit.


  1. MS in Molecular/Cellular Biology Where relevant discipline with at least 2 years of relevant work experience in a diagnostic laboratory/tissue deposition laboratory;
  2. Where Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences, Biological sciences, medical technology Where equivalent with at least 4 years of relevant work experience in a diagnostic laboratory/tissue deposition laboratory.
  3. Experience in supervisory or administrative positions would be an advantage.
  4. Must have at least 2 years of experience in routine processing of PBMCs, serum/plasma and other human biological samples.
  5. Able to work independently and in a team.
  6. Good interpersonal skills with strong leadership qualities.
  7. Must be meticulous and have a good sense of organization.
