KU Libraries Announce Selection of Staff Member for Institute for Research Design in Librarianship

LAWRENCE – The University of Kansas Libraries are pleased to announce that Greta Valentine, Data and Research Analyst, has been selected for the Institute for Research Design in Librarianship (IRDL), which began in June 2019.

IRDL is a highly competitive research program, and this year 23 candidates were selected to participate in the institute’s annual workshop. Valentine is the third member of KU libraries to be selected for IRDL, joining the participants 2018: Rebecca Orozco, Faculty Engagement Librarian for Science and Engineering, and Angela Rathmel, Head of Acquisitions and Resource Sharing.

Valentine received a full scholarship to attend the eight-day workshop at Loyola Marymount University, where participants were trained in survey design, interview techniques, and other integral research methods. Participants received expert instruction on research design and one-on-one assistance in refining their research projects.

“I was able to forge a great relationship during the institute, including finding a research collaborator,” said Valentine. “Having the expertise and contribution of my cohort has already helped me take my research skills to the next level. “

Valentine’s research explores how to document and use good privacy practices, particularly with regard to the protection of identifiable customer data.

“Participating in IRDL gave me the opportunity to work on a peer-reviewed article, as well as to be better informed about improving privacy and data protection practices,” said Valentine. “Joining the cohort is invaluable at this point in my career, and I look forward to refining my research interests by speaking with my co-participants. “

In addition to attending the intensive workshop, Valentine will receive IRDL support for her project throughout the coming year, including the opportunity to partner with a mentor who shares an area of ​​interest. similar.
